In Missouri, if any businessman wants to run his business with the name than his own registered name which is known as an assumed name should file a DBA with the Missouri Secretary of State. Rules for Filing Missouri DBA

As per Section 417.200 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri state that if a business is conducted with an assumed name instead of a real name, registration is done with the Secretary of State’s office.

State law also states that search of the DBA name is not required but it is better to not to use the same name which is already in use.  This happens as there is no protection of the name under the fictitious Name Act.

The DBA registration is renewed after five years.

Failure to register the name is a misdemeanor under the law and subjected to charges by the local prosecuting attorney.

How to fill a DBA Form

Any corporate owner who is seeking to file for a Missouri DBA designation can apply for the same online or you can also submit the application to any of the Corporation Division Branch Office.

For registering the fictitious name, you can get the registration form here. Fill the headquartered address of the business, an address of the business owner/s, with the complete name of the owner and the business name or DBA which needs to be registered and the ownership percentage. Once the forms are signed by the owners, the forms can be mailed or delivered personally with the requisite fee of $7.00 to its office at Jefferson City or Corporations Division branch office.
